My '69 SS396 Camaro Convertible getting ready to go to the body shop after being used as a shelf in the garage for about 12 years. I bought the car in the '80s and built it for my daughter when she was 16. After a couple of years, she got hit three times in one month and I parked it. She got a Mustang convertible to drive to college and this one started a career as a shelf.
Two years ago, I had it taken down to bare metal, the front fender replaced, and repainted. It is still in the shop waiting on a new top and interior. This was supposed to be a three-four month ordeal and I expected six. The price was right, the work is good, but sometimes, when one pays in advance, it takes the incentive off finishing.
The car was originally from Georgia and been used as a quarter mile car. When I rebuilt the engine, I discovered Arias pop ups in the engine. I turned it into a low compression, cheap gas user, but, It was certainly fun to drive in spite of handling like a truck. Color was originally a turquoise blue and I changed it to an '85 Vette red which is a mistake from a collector's view but convertibles should be red.
That is my '81 Elky sitting next to it.
Sold the Elky early this year (2008). The Cmaro is back home after way too many years sitting in the paint shop down in Houston. It was not painted quite right in some of the details, but................
Now, I am pulling it apart to put it back together correctly as the shop left out about half the bolts, etc. Gonna replace everything in the brakes, replace some wiring, fix some leaks, etc.
Yeah, it is dusty out here. You come wash them everyday!
